Virgin Mobile USA has a nifty prepaid mobile broadband plan called
Broadband2Go. The adaptor costs US$99, and the rates are quite competitive.
However, Ubuntu 9.10 did not see the adaptor when I plugged it in. The following is a guide to getting it running:
First, install usb-modeswitch:
apt-get install usb-modeswitch
Then, edit the
/etc/usb_modeswitch.conf file and add the following lines to the end of it:
DefaultVendor= 0x1410
DefaultProduct= 0x5031
TargetVendor= 0x1410
TargetProduct= 0x6002
MessageContent="5553424312345678000000000000061b000000020000000000000000000000"
Now, you can test this by plugging the adaptor into your PC and running
usb_modeswitch as root:
# usb_modeswitch
The device should now be visible as /dev/ttyUSB0.
At this point, you should be able to configure Network Manager to connect to it; select the "Virgin Mobile/Helio" connection.
